Whatsapp speed of messages

HI all

Does anyone use this app regularly?

I have a circle of friends who use Whatsapp to communicate. Most have iphones, a couple Blackberry's and now a couple of Android users.

The thing I've found is that when we send messages, messages always arrive pretty much instantly on iphone & Blackberry's but can take a long time to Android users. For example, I sent one an hour ago to a friend with HTC Desire and its still not delivered.

However, once the first message gets through, subsequent messages seem to arrive much faster.

Same issue with my OH and her Wildfire.

Is this common?

I seem to have the same problem from my Atrix to iPhones. There have been times when I needed a quick reply so I just ate the $0.20 and texted instead. Sometimes it can take hours to go through or it even ends up being the next day. Seems like this is a common thing with WhatsApp since I read about server outages on their side so I was planning to look for an alternative.

The same thing happened on my Blackberry Bold 9000 so it may be something with the app itself.
