Whatsapp unread messages icon

Hello there,

After browsing a bit in Google, and here, I can't seem to find the solution for this (very small) problem I have, so here I am for my first post ever, hoping the solution is not here already and you won't beat me to death (I over exaggerate)

So I use whatsapp, barely but sometimes, and I don't want any notifications from it on my phone (Samsung S6 Edge, after years of using Apple, big change, quiet happy for now)
I blocked all notifications, and I don't get any, on my lock screen or whatsoever.

My "issue" is that even though it's all blocked, and worked perfectly fine for a few hours, I have this little red bubble on the App icon, showing me the number or unread messages. I don't want that and can't seem to get rid of it (unless I read the messages, but sometimes I just don't want to go on the app, I know, I'm annoying.)

Any idea ?
I restarted the phone, deleted the app to instal it again, disabled it, unblocked it and blocked it again...

Any idea is welcome.

Hope it's all clear, and have a good day !

That's interesting. Generally those notification badges on the icon that show unread counts is not a standard feature of Android. I know that using an alternate launcher is how I would get unread counts on an icon. I believe that some Samsung pre-installed apps will have that feature. I find it unusual that WhatsApp would have that feature on your phone unless you are using a custom launcher like Nova.

Are you using a custom launcher on your phone? Do any other app icons show an unread count on your phone?

I didnt install any custon launcher and to be honest I don't even know how to do that.
Got the phone three days ago now and after using an Iphone for the last 4 years, I still need a bit of time :D

How do I tell what launcher I'm using ? Went in the settings but I don't see anything related

The weird thing is that for other apps, like 9chat who are offering a chat system don't show me anything. Just have this with whatsapp.

And thanks for your reply !

If you're not using any custom launcher, then basically, your launcher depends on the brand. HTC uses Sense, Samsung uses TouchWiz, ASUS uses ZenUI, etc. Anyway, normally the bubble notification depends on whatever the launcher supports for it. The more popular ones like Facebook, FB Messenger, and Whatsapp are normally supported. 9Chat isn't as popular as those that's why some launchers don't support it.

Personally I use Nova Launcher Prime, plus it's companion app Tesla Unread, which gives Nova the notification bubbles on the app icon. Tesla Unread has the "Notification Bar Watcher" function, which allows you to control which apps get the notification bubble on Nova.

Oh yeah I read a bit more about the launchers and so on, I will get one, I'll check the one you're talking about to give it a try.

Finally able to control many things on my phone, that's a change :)

Thanks for the reply

Me too.

With Nova Launcher Prime you can backup and restore your configuration from one phone to another or across a Factory Data Reset.

Well I just installed Nova Prime Launcher and... It's great. No more badge icon problem whatsoever, good settings, I'll spend a few hours to customize everything. Thanks a lot !
