When do you need a hard reset?

Well, I uninstalled all my task killers and will be using my phone for awhile without. So far, so good and the phone does run smoother.

My main question is concerning the hard reset and when to do one. Does the Linux-based Android get corrupted like Windows when you download lots of stuff, etc... ? Does it build up? I'm wondering if I should do another fresh hard reset and just start over with all my apps I have now - now that I've narrowed down the ones I use.

I've done it twice since 6/4 because I install so much crap on it that re-seting it to factory specs is the only way to fix what I do. But I don't mind because the reason I wanted an Android phone was so that I could customize it. I enjoy using and breaking Linux apps. I haven't done any rooting activities though, I'm not that brave--yet...

If by hard reset you mean factory specs, on the EVO it's; MENU --> SETTINGS --> PRIVACY --> Factory Data reset.

It doesn't touch anything on your SD card but apps that are downloaded to the phone are gone as is your Google account on the phone. The Factory Data reset screen tells you exactly what it does. There are only a handful of apps that I don't mind downloading again, I can do it while I'm sitting at my desk at work.

So far, never. I'm guessing only when there's a major issue that can't be resolved any other way.
