When is NFC activated?

I have seen several times the NFC feature activated on my Galaxy S8, without me turning it on. Could you please help me to understand how it gets turned on? I also see several activities on my Google Activity related to the NFC, but I don't use it, so I don't really understand why it is there... Thanks in advance for your help.

Go into your settings / connections and you will find where you can enable and disable NFC.
