When paid apps vanish?

Been using Better Cut for ages (allows me to change the icons on apps - things like K-9 Mail HAVE to have their icons changed!) but just today I updated the firmware on my SGS2 and have noticed that Better Cut is no longer available. Can't find it through my phone, through the web version of the Market or through App Brain.

Two questions:

(a) does that mean I have lost what I paid for it?

(b) anyone know an alternative that allows me to change the icon of other apps?

Are you logged in on the gmail account you bought the app with? If so:

Go to Market and push the menu button and go to "My Apps" and scroll down to purchased.

If it's not there, hit home. Then push menu button > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All tab and scroll down to the Market. Clear data and try finding it in the market again.

Already done those. It's not there - it's gone from the Market. This is what it says when looking through AppBrain (BetterCut - Android app on AppBrain)

They do just go away sometimes. I had one that did, annoying. I suppose you could try to email the dev, if you can find an email, and ask for the apk? You may just be SOL.

Interesting. The developer's web site (Better Android Apps) says that their account has been pulled by Google, so now only available via Amazon App Store (which is no good for me as I am in the UK)

There is a reason why some apps are pulled down by Google.

Send the dev a copy of your purchase receipt.

From a PC, go to this address (thank you tcat007!) https://www.google.com/dashboard/

Scroll down through the lists and look for Checkout. All of your Market purchases are right there. Open up view purchase link from BetterCut and you can either take a screenshot, print out the page, or copy/paste the info into an email to the dev.

You have your receipt, so in my humble opinion he has no reason not to resend the app/key to you.

I got a result....I contacted Google and they have agreed to refund the purchase price. Not actually that bothered, more bothered by the fact that I lost the app that I used a lot. Of course - it's available on the Amazon Market.....in the US :-(

If youre wondering what happened...

FWIW: I've found desktop visualizer to be a very good alternative to bettercut (although its been ages since i used bettercut, so there may be stuff it doesnt do that bettercut did).

Also: It's FREE.

@daveybaby - thanks for the suggestion. Have actually switched launcher to Go Launcher EX to get a bit more customisation and that allows changing the icon (and renaming and even removing the name - NICE!) so Better Cut has lost it's use for now.
