When someone emails you a ringtone

Don't know about the droid, but with the Nexus1:
Tap preview
Once the music player starts playing, tap options
tap "set as ringtone"
Does the Droid have a different music player? Otherwise you'll just have to connect it to a computer and drag the file into a ringtone folder.
