Where am I putting my media?

First time Android user here, convert from iphone (Is that a swearword here?! ;) I will never go back!).

I am obviously learning a lot, despite considering myself being relatively tech savvy, Android still confuses me at times. I am now putting videos on my phone from Youtube for offline viewing at work.

My question is if I put the media file (MP4) I think, in the main folder that opens when I connect my phone (HTC Desire) to the PC, is that using phone memory? I got a message saying the phone is low on memory, not sure if related to me putting the file over or an app download. I've moved as many apps to the SD card as are allowed. How can I move media about on the phone? Or can you not? Is it the DCIM folder that it needs to go in to be on the SD card?

Lots of questions sorry! It's a nice website you have here, I look forward to posting more in the future.

It's not my area of expertise, but I'm almost positive that the area you are putting your media files would be the external memory card and unrelated to your low memory warning which is in reference to the space left over for apps and etc....

Use this App 2 SD if you're running Android 2.2 and above. It will show you which apps you have on the memory and which apps you can move to your Memory card to help you save space. FYI, don't move Widgets, Live Wallpapers to the SD card as they won't operate from that location.

Also I recommend you downloading ES File Explorer as you get acclimatised to Android. It's a good File Explorer (Better than Astro just not as popular IMO) to let you see what is on your memory card and actually what you have on your system partition. Play around with the settings and Manager (Like Use SD analyst to see what's taking up space on your SD card and etc...)

Thanks for that. I am suffering a bit at the moment, all my apps seem to go straight on the internal memory and most won't allow the "move to SD card" option. I'll check out the app's you mention right away, they seem like they'll do the job perfectly!

Thanks Mistiq! :D I knew where all my multimedia was going when I loaded it up on my phone, but I've been wondering about moving apps to SD card for a while now- I only installed a few more apps than what were already on my phone but I get low memory/space warnings all the time!

Glad I was able to of some assistance. Android is a great thing, it's just not always clearly laid out upfront. As long as you spend time on sites like this, you'll learn a lot and be doing things you never thought of before you even know it
