Help Where are my ebooks?

My Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 had Aldiko Reader on it with a few books in the library, I knew where they were on the SD card, and I had Calibre on my Mac. For some reason I don't remember, I reset the phone (but not the SD card) to factory default. Now most of those books, maybe all of them, are in Play Books, I can't find them in either phone storage or on the SD card, and Calibre can't find them either. The books did not come from Google Play Books, so they shouldn't be in the Play Books library on the phone, should they?

I just downloaded a free ebook to my Mac (not from Google), and I want to put it on the phone. I haven't installed Aldiko or any other reader on the phone yet, because I want all my books to be accessible in the same app on the phone. I want either to put the new book in Play Books, or move the Play Books library to some other reader app that can also accept the new book. Where do I go from here?

Aldiko puts the book files in the internal memory. Not the sd card. So if you had reset your phone, they would have been deleted. Google Books has a setting that uploads ebooks. You may have yours set to automatic, hence Google uploaded the books, so you find them on Google Play books.

I am not sure if you can move the Play Books, but I do know you can upload to Play Books.

That doesn't quite answer the question, but it solved my problem. Yes, the books are in Google Play Books on the web, and I was able to upload the new book and read it on the phone. But to read it offline I had to download it from Google Play to the phone, two books had already been downloaded, and I don't know where they are, but I can delete the downloads in the Play Books app. So everything works for me.

Maybe Aldiko puts the books in internal storage by default, but I must have moved them in my older Samsung Galaxy Y Duos, because the book files are on the SD card, although Aldiko isn't there any more. I guess on the newer phone I just left them in the default location. There are books on the older phone that aren't in Play Books but I can upload them through the Mac if I want them.

If you originally had the books on SD card and use them with Aldiko, it creates a copy of the book in the internal memory which the app uses. Meaning you had two copies of the book on your phone. That's the reason I dumped Aldiko really. Redundant files.

Anyway. The books downloaded from Google Play are inside the Google Play Books app folder inside system files. However AFAIK they would not be in a format that's readable by other programs or apps. You need to use PlayBooks.

Redundancy or not, for some reason I still like Aldiko.
I have a folder of all my epub/PDF/etc files, on a flash drive, and add/remove books from Aldiko as desired.

Each to his own lol. I went with Mantano Reader over Aldiko. But AFAIK there's no free version for you to try out.
