Where are ringtones stored please?

Hi first post on here = Hi <waves>

Now I am pretty computer & phone literate, but I cannot find the factory ringtones on my phone!!

They are present in the soundpicker list and they work, but I'm blowed if I can find them.

I use ES File Explorer on the phone and can easily access the phones internal (and SD) memory via my (Linux) laptop.

I know the ringtones are supposed to be in the folder = system > media > audio > ringtones
But, I don't have a folder called "System" ?
I wondered if "System" meant "Android" but in that path = Android > media there is no "audio" or ringtones folder.

I do have a Ringtones folder in the root of the emulated "0" folder, but that only contains some custom ringtones I personally put there.

Can anyone help me locate the factory ringtones please?

Ah, right, that ^^^ helps, but it turns out that you are only partly right (I think ;) )

My phone is definitely not rooted, but using my (basic free version) of ES File Explorer, if I go "back / up a level", I can see the paths and files :) I cannot delete there, but then again I do know that I sure don't want to be doing that in that location!!!

I do thank you for your input as I wouldn't have figured out there was a higher level that is visible without the info you provided.

I didn't / don't have a problem actually = I just was puzzled and I like to understand stuff ;)
 
This is the second report recently of ES being able to see those directories without root access, which is odd because I know that other file managers designed for root browsing can't without this. Must be that they've coded it with knowledge of the android file system, rather than requiring you to navigate to the root ("/") in order to find the system folders. In the same way that if I use a terminal emulator I can cd to / and then type "ls" and it tells me I haven't permission, but if I cd to /system and then look I can see the files.

It's a shame that I don't entirely trust the company behind ES (they have had privacy/security problems, especially relating to cloud storage - although I never used them for that I moved away from them anyway).
 
X-plore will let me browse the root partition and system folder without being rooted. It's a decent ES replacement. I can also copy media files from the system folder, but can't move, delete or add.
 
How do you get it to /system in the first place? On my (unrooted) Pixel I can't find any way of navigating X-Plore to the /system folder.
 
When you first open up X-plore it shows you various volumes and data access points.

Tap root and you'll see /system
 
FX File Manager, Root Browser, Simple Mobile's file manager, Ghost Commander, and Total Commander all let me see into /system in my unrooted LG Stylo 3 Plus.

Nope, not for me:

May be an android version thing: it does allow me to browse on Android 5 (I've an unrooted tablet), but not on 8 or 9 (my phone).

Aye, tis a bit odd because despite Linux's ability to navigate through road blocks, I cannot see the "system" folder via that route, only via ES File Transfer <shock>
