"Where" bloatware pre-loaded, but not on Market?

An irritating "Where" app that's been derided on some other forums at bloatware is pre-loaded and takes up lots of space on Android 2.2, but I can't uninstall it or stop it. I'm also concerned that it might auto-bill me for phone calls or usage without my permission. Yet it's not sold on Android Market, and I don't know what to do about about it. it takes up over 5600 kb, among my larger apps...I have a samsung intercept with virgin mobile..
suggestions? here's not so helpful answer from help desk:

WHERE is preloaded on many AT&T devices and is available for AT&T's iPhone
and BlackBerry devices. However, we are not a part of AT&T's Android Market
at this time. You can download WHERE for Android directly using the
following link:
http://static.where.com/android/whatisnew/3160/WHERE.apk

To uninstall WHERE:
Launch the Settings application - Applications - Manage Applications -
WHERE - Uninstall.

On some devices, WHERE comes preloaded and cannot be removed. On these
devices, instead of having the uninstall option, you will be presented with
the remove updates option. [Not so on Android 2.2.]

it's a legit app, I wouldnt worry about it billing you erroneously. It's been around awhile. But I personally regard it as bloatware too, but that's just my opinion and not that of AF/Phandroid.

If you root your phone then you can remove or freeze bloatware. Titanium is a great app for doing that, but requires you to be rooted.

I feel that any software that is available for free in the Market, when pre-installed on a device, is bloatware. BUT, since it appears to be unavailable in AT&T's variation of the Market (why are there variations?), I might have to rethink my previous statement.

That said, even if you find a way to remove it (by rooting), it's best to keep these things around and just freeze them using something like Titanium Backup or Bloat Freezer, as deleting pre-installed apps can lead to OTA update failure later on.
