Where did the indicator light go?

Did the latest Android update (ver. 8) turn off the indicator light in the upper left corner of the phone, that used to alert me when I got a text message or notification when the screen was asleep?
It was convenient to quickly see if a text or notification had come through when I didn't have my phone with me and I returned to the phone.

The update turned it off.

Go to settings
Led Indicator (you can search for it)
Turn it on again
