Help Where do i insert the unlocking code on my zte zmax?

I use cell service with metro pcs but i have a walmart family mobile zte zmax. i know there are places online to get the unlock code to make this phone work on my metro pcs sim, but....with my metro sim card inserted into the zmax it should prompt me to enter a unlock code once i get past the lock screen but its not doing that! so even if/when i get a unlock code for it, where do i type it in on the zmax if its not promting me to do so????

MetroPCS/Family Mobile/T-Mobile are together. Family Mobile is a part of T-Mobile, and T-Mobile (Owns, or partners?) with Metro. So there the same. Alot of phones DON'T need to be unlocked if there a part of the T-Mobile network (Metro I think does require unlocking for T-Mobile, while T-Mobile doesn't for Metro). So you might need to buy a random SIM card from some place, like Ebay.

Too Long Didn't Read: Family Mobile is a part of T-Mobile; T-Mobile owns Metro so it lets Metro go through without unlocking. Need to get a different SIM card from another carrier.

gotcha, and that kinda makes sense. my sister and i live together and she uses att. i know for a fact that even though the zmax is a tmobile/walmart family mobile phone, that it still needs to be unlocked for use with a metro sim card BUT do you think i could use my sisters att sim card just to get the unlock code prompt to appear and then once the codse is entered i could turn it off, take the att sim out, insert the metro sim and then it would be good to go? or does the sim that you want to use have to be in the phone during the time the unlocking code is entered?

AT&T will work. If it doesn't. Contact Family Mobile to unlock it for you for free, link above.

and i wont be able to get it unlocked via family mobile website because it has not been active for there required ammount of time. i litterally went to walmart and bought the phone a hour ago, took it out of the box and now trying to unlock it to be used with metro

Sucks, try the AT&T SIM and see if that works. If not. Family Mobile must have locked down that thing, Metro hasn't SIM perma locked the device, but for Family/T-Mobile it might be a different case.

ok so with the att sim inserted, i DO get the prompt to enter the unlocked code. thats a good sign, but do you think it will be ok to have the att sim inside the phone while entering the unlock code since im wanting to use the phone on metro pcs?

You need the SIM inside for the prompt to be there. Once unlocked, pop it out and enter a Metro one. Simple as that, although you might need to give Metro your IMEI for them to transfer/know you have a new device.
