Where does the phone store sms files???

I have been using a file manager to try and find the text files for my LG Vortex Android, but can't seem to find them. Everything i've read says I should either look in the SYSTEM folder and then find the sms folder, which doesn't seem to exist, or look in data/data/....mmssms.db but there is no "data" folder within my "data" folder...

Does anyone know where the vortex actually saves the sms information, and how I could access it using a file manager?

Thanks!
Dave

They are not stored in a file, but in a database. You can access it if you use My Phone explorer but i don't think there is a recycle bin or trash folder for deleted sms messages. They're just gone.

I have a few similar explorer apps that allow me to search the files on the phone, but I just need to know exactly where the database is stored. What is the filepath you would follow to find that database?

/data/data/com.android.providers/telephony/databases/mmssms.db

Thats what I had found as well, but that filepath doesn't exist on my phone. Within the android folder there is a "data" folder, but there is not another "data" folder within.

Yea, not sure about where they are stored on your phone then. But you wont be able to recover deleted messages. With physical hard drives, its fairly easy to recover deleted files, but with flash memory, once you delete something, its gone.

It's there, but depending on the file manager you are using, you might not have permission to browse there.

Using ES File explorer, it showed the data folder as empty. Using root explorer /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db was right were it was supposed to be.

Doesnt the LG vortex have a physical internal drive?

Does anybody know if the LG vortex has a physical memory that would save deleted text messages? From what i've heard, the phone will keep the deleted messages in a database until it runs out of space.

You are correct, the root explorer shows that directory along with all the messages. Unfortunately, any message that has been deleted does not show up in this database. Does anyone know if there is an alternative location for deleted messages, or are they gone for good?

Thanks!

If theyre not in that database, then i'm afraid theyre gone for good.
Maybe the person that sent it to you has a copy on their phone...
