On my droid x quik office works great to automatically open word and pdf docs. The issue I am having is that once I have downloaded a document I have no way to save it and i can't find it later. Icant find the saved douments or the quick office application anywhere on my phone.

I don't think QuickOffice is something you can start on its own.

Downloaded files are typically stored in the /download folder on the memory card. To view this folder with stock Android you can open the browser, then goto Menu -> More -> Downloads. Tapping on a file there should open it in the appropriate application.

To explore the rest of the memory card you'll need a file manager type application. There are too many of these in the Market to list them all, but a few are Astro File Manager, Linda File Manager, and File Magic. Even though they recently started including ads in the free version of Astro, it's still my favorite, though I'm now looking at File Magic.

Wow!! My first post and I think I even know the answer. On one of your screens touch and hold in a blank area. You should get a menu that has shortcut as a selection. Touch shortcut and another menu appears. One of the options on the menu is one of your file managers. Select the file manager. Navigate to the folder or file of interest and select. Viola!! you have a shortcut to that document or folder. I use shortcuts to selected PDF docs that I want to reference.
If I have blown it, feel free to correct my instructions.

Yes, you can create folder shortcuts with Astro. The only other file manager I've tried is File Magic, and it doesn't appear to offer this ability.
