I could not do video chat with google talk. it shuts off immediately. Has anybody had any success with video chatting?

yes, Google Talk video chat worked fine with me over a fiber connection at home in the USA. Maybe check for firewall or throttling issues on hotel wifi, cellular, etc. Good luck.
