Where to buy carrier unlocked phones?

Just curious where you folks who want to break out of contract obligations buy your phones from that is also reliable enough to honor warranties and repairs?

I don't like carrier no-contract prices, simply because they're marked up deliberately to get you into a subsidized contract. So I'm looking for alternatives when my contract expires. Where are recommended reliable places to buy carrier unlocked phones that aren't as pricey as the carrier sold ones? I already looked at Best Buy and those aren't any cheaper than anything I could pick up at the carrier store.

You might consider VM, Cricket or Boost Mobile. They are not unlocked, but you will get a great Android device and a fixed monthly fee with no contract. I never go on contract.
 
Thanks, but I'm looking specifically for reliable, reasonably priced places to buy unlocked phones I can take to any carrier.
 
People using tapatalk or android forums app have no idea what country we're talking about here
 
Canada, but it might be possible that an unlocked phone bought from a reliable USA based online source might work on Canadian carriers using the same type of network, true? Not sure about that one. Although I'm hesitant to have to rely on an online company for warranties or repairs rather than brick and mortar stores where I can go in and scream at them lol :p
 
Some of the newer devices such as the international gsm galaxy s3 work in the US where previously they wouldn't so you're probably right. That said, frequencies vary from carrier to carrier in NA. I suppose it may be best to scope the carrier of choice first and checking their frequency bands before deciding on a device/retailer that can supply your needs

That will either widen the field or the opposite.

I say that as in the uk there is a lot of difference in carrier services and signal quality. If its the other way around there then perhaps my entire post is irrelevant ;)
 
Sadly I don't see it there. Buying direct from Google would be nice but hopefully their next nexus phone will be there alongside the tablet that's there
