where to store music files on external SD card

I would like to transfer some music from my computer to my Galaxy S5's microSD card. I connected via USB and Windows sees the Card device. I navigated to Card > Android > Data > com.google.android.music > files > music and put my music folders in there. However, when I open the Google Player app and change it to "on device" nothing shows up. Why is this? Did I put my music in the wrong location?

Check your micro SD for a directory called 'Music'. Soon you access the micro SD you should see it. If it's not there just make one and copy your mp3's to that folder.

The your music will then show up.

What I did on my galaxy nexus was: upload my music to music manager (which is downloaded on my computer). Then I have it on any device that I own that has Play Music - my galaxy nexus, my GS5, and my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Tablet. The problem I ran into is that it ate *A LOT* of data - so I would "download to device" on the phone. BUT on the Galaxy Nexus I did NOT have an SD card. Supposedly, I've been told, you can download the music this way to the SD Card.....I went into Music settings and checked it but I don't think this is quite working.....

I decided to use Google Music Manager even though I didn't really want to have to upload my entire iTunes music library to the cloud just to download a few albums locally to my phone. What I noticed is that even though the Google Music Player can see and play the music that is stored locally on my phone, the Samsung music player can't. Why is this? I also can't find where the music files were actually stored on the SD card. I know they were stored on the SD card because I had previously gone into the settings of the Google Music Player app and selected the external SD card for local storage of music. I also checked my internal and external storage size after I downloaded them and the external storage size had decreased. I still don't understand why I couldn't just drag and drop music onto the SD card and have the music players recognize the files.

Odd...all I did was put the micro SD card on my phone. Plug my phone into my computer. I created a folder on my micro SD card called Music and copied all my music over. Once I did that...as soon as I opened my music app...it saw everything.

I wonder if it has to do with the type of SD card you use???

It's a Sandisk 32GB microsd card. I did have the phone format the card after I put it in. It created two directories on the card...one called Android and one called lostdir or something like that.

hmmmm, sorry for the confusion, there is something else going on

it supports subfolders below Music, for example this is an album's subfolder and it contains all the music files:

Local storage>SD card>Music>Irish Tour 1974

Well, crap. I don't know what's wrong then. I still have some albums under the Music folder but neither the Samsung music player or the Google Music Player can see them. Should I have the phone reformat the SD card and start all over?

I would try reformatting the card and create the Music folder with the computer, that's what I did originally, all with Windows 7, what kind of computer do you have ?

I just drug all my music to the folder called lost or something like lost. I can now use play music or music to listen to the music. Also using 32 gb SanDisk stock.

That's how I did it with my Nexus previously but they fixed it so it could't be done anymore. Good to know that it could be done....did you use google play music? Or another music app?
