where, yelp or sherpa. which is more like poynt

i need to stop just loading apps willy nilly on my phone. ive loaded so much crap in the past two weeks... i miss poynt that i had on my blackberry. these 3 apps seem to be android equivalents. any opinions on which is more like poynt or maybe more importantly, which of the 3 tends to be more accurate (ie, places out of business showing, new businesses showing etc). they all have decent ratings on the market so not sure which to give a whirl.

I also miss poynt.

I use Where+Movies (flixter)+Places Directory to replace it.

Where is decent, but is clunky. A lot of info, but the interface is not nearly as refined as Poynt.

Movies is great.

Places Directory is great as a "what's nearby" app, but the lack of filtering makes it almost useless for anything more than a 2-3 mile radius.

As far as "accuracy", PD uses Google and Where uses YP.

Honestly, Layar is catching up fast and quietly becoming less of a toy and more of a tool.

Already have flixter. It was to see that app already on android. I always used it as a mobile IMDB moreso than a movie time finder. The bb version didnt have ads tho. Oh well only the fullscreen ones are annoying like the killers trailer last week that kept popping up all the time

I also used Poynt, but I found that there isn't a need for any app on the android systems that are 2.1 or more. I can get all the information I need from google maps. FASTER than using other apps. I use the voice search by pressing the magnifying glass for more than 1 second and say "map of restaurants". The map will come up showing you the location of all the restaurants around you. Click on the bottom left that looks like a list on a piece of paper to see the list view. This view lists them all out and shows the distance to each place. Click on a particular place and it will give you most of what you need to know and the option to navigate to it, call it, get directions. save to your contacts, etc. You can even share this location via email to someone so you can show them where you want to meet. I like fast! I have found this gives me all the info I need VERY quickly. You can say all kinds of things that you want to find. Map of mexican restaurants, Map of bars, Map of walmart, map of gas shell gas stations.

Anyway, I know its a different way of doing things, but like I said, I can find information this way faster than an app can.

For movies, say map of movie theater. click on the theater you want to go to, slide to bottom, "more info", then Showtime schedule. There is all your movies.

OR, use Movies from flixter. I use flixter myself.

Hope this helps.

hmm, google maps does seem to work pretty well. maybe ill stick with that. i like flixter too so ill keep it around for movies :)

Hi! I just noticed you were talking about missing Poynt on the Droid and thought I would let you know we will be releasing the first Android version within the month. After a successful sneak peak in New York last week, the developers are putting the finishing touches on the App right now.

Feel free to email us at mobilesupport@mypoynt.com and we will add your contact info to the Android notification list and drop you a line when the download is available!

Have a great day!

I asked this in the forum. I have found that there is:

Yelp
Where
Places
Around Me
City Search
Aloqa

I have sort of given up nd just use maps in the way that TJ is describing. Based on how everyone is describing poynt...I think I will definitely check it out when it comes around. Seems very well liked.
