I'm looking at getting my first android phone sometime next week.

I've ordered the HTC Desire which is out of stock and i'm expecting it to be delivered next week but I've been wondering if the new samsung galaxy s would be the better option? I never seen the samsung galaxy s until after i've ordered my Desire.

Should I cancel my desire and get the galaxy?

It will be a long contract and I just want to have the best android phone available now.

Galaxy S is a substantially better phone than the Desire. Price difference, I bet, isn't great either, especially considering that the price of the phone over 2 years, when compared to the price of service/data plan, isn't that great.

Pretty much the top choices now are
Verizon: Droid X, Incredible, Droid 2 (w/keyboard, coming soon)
T-Mobile: Vibrant (Galaxy S)
AT&T: Captivate (Galaxy S)
Sprint: EVO

Unless I left something out (which I probably did and someone will correct me), I wouldn't get an Android phone other than these right now.

I would go with any of the Galaxy S variant's or the Droid X.

I wouldn't buy any of the Snapdragon phones since the Hummingbird and new TI OMAP make it look like out-dated technology.

Droid Incredible if you're on Verizon.

Droid X is the size of a piece of toast and I heard somewhere that it uses 5x the data than other phones...not sure if that's true, but with the possible introduction of tiered data plans that might make a huge difference.

Don't have experience with other carrier's devices.
