Which free antivirus should I use?

My wife's laptop is currently using the free version of AVG. I've read alot online about it interfering with things (such as Chromecast, which we can't seem to get connected too right now). Which free antivirus do you recommend?

Hi I use Microsoft Security essentials,I have never had a problem with it..Some prefer Avast/Avant..

I used Panda for years but they apparently stopped the free version. So I tried a few and stopped trying at AVG. Not because I like it better, more because I got tired of trying and uninstalling.

Some of my friends and colleagues use 360 Safe Guard, by Beijing Qihoo Technology Co. Ltd.

I use Mac OS X or Linux Mint.

I just took the free upgrade windows 10 so I guess I'll just use Microsoft defender. Thanks for everybody's input

Defender/Security Essentials is all you ever need!!

If you want to be extra careful/sure, then use Malwarebytes...

This is my setup. But, I read that Security Essentials had poor reviews.

I use defender but once a week I run malwarebytes and it always finds some redirect malware that defender never catches.

Haters, the lot of them. It's free so big anti-virus companies are threatened by it.

Same here, most of that is benign of course. Also, the same would hold true for any AV.

I always use Malwarebytes to get rid of the nasty stuff

Another vote for the Microsoft/Malwarebytes combo.

(along with removing Flash/Java from my pc, and running EFF Privacy Badger to limit tracking in my web browsing)

I am using Microsoft Security essentials too. I have used Avast too. But i don't like this... I think this is better than Avast.

I would agree with MSE (which is built into Windows 8/10 as Windows Defender).

AVG used to be a commonly recommended one, but I've not exactly heard great things about them recently.

Thanks for the heads up! Explains why it's been pushing for update last few weeks. Uninstalled again. (Accidentally reinstalled with flashing a backup..)
