Which HTC for me... One V or another?

Hi people,

I've been waiting patiently for the past 10 months for my 1st smartphone and waiting for my current phone (Nokia 5810) to die in a dignified manner.

I'm currently considering between the One V and One S - i know it's not a fair fight between these considering the difference in specs on offer.

I would like your opinions of which one is best for my needs:
  • Good battery
  • Some future-proofing (part of the reason why I favour the One S over the V)
  • Entertainment value (interpret this as you will - I want to be able to personalise it as much as I can)
I won't use my phone for much music at all as I have an Mp3 player and I'm not a professional photographer but a decent camera would be very welcome.

I've played around on a few phones and I like the Sense UI - so I just need help to find which HTC phone I should get.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Forums!:)

I moved this into the device comparison forum where you can get a more objective opinion between the One V, or One S.

Welcome to AF. :)

IMO, I don't think any device is future proof and even the latest and greatest eventually go obsolete. I am leaning towards the One S because it has a better display, battery, 4.3 inch display, 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcom Snapdragon S4, 1GM RAM, 16GB Internal memory. Overall it seems the One S has better specs than the One V and it has a bigger battery.

Agreed. It also has a lot to do with carrier. I would likely have a much different view on smart phones if I had a verizon or at&t contract. Might even have an iPhone by now.

I am getting a 1V because its on my pre-paid network and it is at a reasonable price point. Evo is better spec wise, but I don't want to drop more on it.

1V will mostly double what I already have spec wise and it will work out for me.

Currently, I am just lurking the forums for possible bad news about it. Seems solid enough so far.

Sorry I probably should have mentioned it before - I'm from the UK and will be buying a pre-paid / sim-free phone.

My ideal phone have enough under the hood to last for a few years (hopefully) - this is why I'm tempted by the One S.

But being new to smartphones and android - i'm wondering if I should make baby steps to the One V (or another device) and then look to upgrade the phone in 2 years.

It's difficult for me to gage what my usage will be as i've always had a dumb-phone - what I do want is a phone that will cope with a variety apps expected to be released over the next 2 years or more.

Would a dual-core phone be a safer/better option or will the second core remain idle over this time?

From what I hear the one s is a solid device.. If it's anything like it's brother the one x and it's cousin the evo 4G lte its a winner
