Yes everyone does have their different or preferred preferences. However there are definitely some products that are better than others that do indeed operate or work better in certain situations or circumstances.
For example some may have a better CPU but it's software could be poorly written and even though it has more beef than other products it doesn't have the correct or badly written drivers etc.
Sometimes also a very important thing to consider is that not all devices are made the same even though it is the exact same phone and model with the identical innards.
Sometimes when CPUs, GPUs and various oher components come out of the exact same factory even though they are the exact same phone and model on the exact same assembly line - sometimes they are not equal in performance due to extremely small (sometimes can be very crippling / serious though depending on what it is) manufacturing defects.
But it all depends on what you are looking for though - if you are looking to do casual gaming or light gaming you wont need state of the art or bleeding edge technology.
But if you do some serious gaming and need a good camera then maybe have a look at the Razor 2 Phone but I think it might be excessive for what you are looking for.
But it is a bit pricey / expensive at 800 USD.
But I don't think the camera is revolutionary.
Also the Asus ROG is pretty hard core from what I hear but these companies will say anything to sell their products... even twist the truth a bit so just keep that all in mind.
And there's the Black Shark Gaming Phone as well
