Which Phone?

tailbob

Newbie
Hi, I am new and am getting a new phone in november! I detest the iPhone and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for android smartphones that i could get on a contract in november?

Thanks

Um, depends on what your carrier options are. Many models are only for some markets or networks.

What seem to be the most wanted are:
HTC Desire
HTC Incredible
HTC Evo

Motorola probably has some nice new models but they are not talked about as often in my circles. The Droid & Milestone were very popular but they are a bit old now. I sometimes hear about the Devour & Backflip. But I think the backflip is more of a curiosity than serious geek lust. It has a weird touchpad thingy on the bottom of the phone. The Droid & Milestone have qwerty keyboards which some people love & some hate. I honestly don't know what the Devour offers.

I do hear a fair bit of critisism for Sony Ericssons, but the Xperia X10 seems to be the best one (it might be the only one though). From what I hear, it might be best to skip it & wait for the next model if you want an SE phone.

Having said all that, if you're not buying until November, then your asking too early. Unlike the iphone, there will most likely be new androids either out or about to be released then, so your probably asking way too early.

answer a couple of questions.

Which Carrier? (or which ones you are considering)
Does price of the phone matter?
What are the primary things you want to do? (Texting, Email, Multimedia etc.)
do you prefer a hardware keyboard, or is on screen OK?

There are a ton of choices available, and more coming out.

Sprint and tmo are typically cheaper than vzw and att so if one of those works for ya its a no brainer.
Pick the carrier first then the phone, cool phone that doesnt make calls = not so cool ;)

I also suggest carrier first, phone second. As for the phones I can't tell you what will be available in November. That's a long way away in the mobile gadget world.

Likewise, I'll be replacing my phone & PDA with Android soon. A concern I have is that all the t-mo ones I see are smaller than my 4.8 in x 3.1 in. Palm TX. All t-mo offers are about 4.6 x 2.3. Are there any Androids that are a bit larger?

The Sprint EVO 4G boasts a 4.3 in screen, the biggest Android phone yet known to man, at least until the Dell Streak is available with its 5 in screen. Dell Streak at least can be bought unlocked for $500.

Well, as i live in the UK i will be going for the three network as they are a mobile browsing network/texting based and they do very good plans, i am willing to pay 20 pounds a month on contract. And also like someone above said, i will wait till later to start looking :D
