which program do i use

i was wondering what programs there are out there to make themes and whatnot... i am wanting a nice theme but cant find anything out there that i like... and figured i would try to make my own since my x looks a little bland... also is there a how to on this like making them and installing them... im kind of a noob at the whole phone customizing thing... also curious about making icons and whatnot

By "themes" do you mean making and modifying apk and jar files or just making your own icons , wallpapers, etc?

As for making your own Icons, wallpapers I think Gimp or photoshop would be enough to get you started , that and search this forum for what others have already done that you might be able to use
