Which Smartwatch?

I have a OnePlus-6 and I would like to get a Smartwatch for it but I don't know which is going to be the best one to get. I'm not fussed about all the sports tracking side of things. Your views and opinions are much appreciated.
Many thanks
Darren

If you are mostly concerned with the non-fitness tracking aspects, then a lot of the Gen-1 / Gen-2 stuff would fit the bill and be pretty budget friendly. I'm still using a generation one Huawei watch and my biggest killer functionality is notications. They can be had for short money. Gen-2 Huatch's are around for about $150.

Right now there is a pause in new watches while OEM's integrate new chips, but all the new stuff is going to be expensive.

I've had good service from a Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. Though it's seen little third party support, the watch has functioned flawlessly for a year and a half. It's very battery kind as well. I'm guessing that it's off of the leading edge enough by now that it can be had at a reasonable price.

I'm going to double down on the Fossil recommendation. I'm on my second and beyond being very responsive smart watches, they are very attractive watches all on their own.

(And for the record, I also own Tag Heuer, Movoado, Gucci, Raymond Weil, Tissot and Hamilton watches ... never like Rolex. I'd buy a Breitling before Rolex.)

I'll add to the Fossil comments. I have a Gen 3 Explorist and love it. Doesn't have a heart monitor but I did't need one, price was right and it's been mostly a delight. Responsive, attractive, quality build. Two thumbs up.

early this year.. i really really wanted a smartwatch and a 3D viewer... for my Samsung S8+

I got the 3D viewer in May.. samsung with the controller.
used it for a week.. maybe 3 times.
now it sits in the corner in its box.

not so sure i want that smartwatch...

I agree my Samsung Gear S3 has not been out from its box for a long time. I dont seem to be satisfied until i get my phone out and check it :)

Welcome to the Android Forums Darren!

Try one of the Chinese knock-offs first.
They cost less than 20USD and have a wide range of apps to try. I'm addicted to Pedometer. How far did I walk today; Exactly?

My Huatch finally succumbed to failure to charge due to wear and tear on the Pogo pins. :( Too bad as it still did all I wanted and more as a smartwatch and even this morning had 30% battery left after 36 hours without a charge.

I wanted to ask the Fossil owners what they thought of the 3rd Gen fossil. I don't need the latest and greatest in hardware. I just want to make sure it doesn't have the flat tire (I know it went away at some point, but just looking for confirmation) and that there isn't some other compelling reason to shell out the additional $100 or so for the Gen 4.

I've got the Gen 3 Explorist, @Unforgiven . No flat tire, although I didn't mind it on the Q Founder (which I still have). I've never run the battery down with daily use and heavy notifications. The only thing is that there is no heart rate monitor, if you're looking for that kind of thing.

Never used it, so no loss there. Thanks for the confirmation.

You should be able to get one for under $200, but be careful if you are inclined to swap bands. If you get the one with the metal braclet, there may not be a whole lot of options because of the way the case differs from the ones with the leather bands.

So I'm bettor off getting a leather one? Good tip, plus they are cheaper.

Yep, that's the one.

I have to apologize about the band/bracelet confusion, though. I just disconnected my bracelet from the body and discovered that what I thought was part of the housing was actually part of the band. If you want metal, go for it!

I broke one of the Chinese knockoffs I ordered.
When you open one those, little pieces of tape covering components serve a purpose other than packaging...
That's your water recistance.

Learned that the hard way.

Nope, that makes it better. I'll probably wear the brown leather until it wears out, and swap in a light metal band and still come out cheaper than starting with a metal band. Plus, the ones they come with (same with the Huatch) are overly heavy (for my liking) when combined with the large watch.
