Which sound file system?

I've just installed Total Recall, which is an app for recording phone conversations on my Samsung Galaxy S2 (and it works very well).

It gives me a choice of four file formats: 3GPP, AMR, MPEG4 and WAV, two of which I've never heard of!

Which is the best format for recording a sound file that I may wish to email to someone, by which I really mean, which format is likely to be readable by the majority of my friends using standard PCs and laptops etc.?

Thanks.

If you're not worried about the size of the sound files I'd say wav format, it should be compatible with windows, mac, or linux. Otherwise tell those pesky friends to download an audio file converter! :D

WAV results in the biggest files but is the most compatible. WAV files are natively supported by all versions of Windows-- and I would expect Mac & Linux too. Support for the other formats is questionable. I don't think Windows natively supports 3GPP. Of course if your friends have a good media player like the free, open-source, VLC Media Player (which can play just about any audio or video format) then they'd be able to play any format you choose.
