Who else dislikes the micro-USB?

The micro-USB connection on my Droid recently smoked, yes literally. Is anyone else having problems with this new USB connection?
 
Haven't had any problems with it but it sure seems flimsy compared to mini and isn't all that much smaller.
 
I loved Mini usb, had multiple devices and bluetooth ear pieces that were mini ubs....but the fact that the "standard" will be micros usb I am all for...devices going forward will per the EU requirement to have one interface...that is good, no more buying multiple adapters and such. I would prefer mini, but in a pinch micro will do.
 
One thing I dont like about the cable is the length for my charger. I would like to get something about double in length of the one that came with my phone.

Is there a place to buy a longer cable? where?

Is there a certain kind of micro usb cable I need to buy for the moto droid? will any micro-usb cable work?

I have bought a couple of different chargers/q cables off ebay and they all are about the same length. One was a couple of inches longer then the others. (I keep one charger at home, one at work and then have a 3rd one I keep in my suitcase when I go on trips). With one of the cables I bought, when I plug it in, it makes from phone go crazy. It starts opening programs etc. It is is someone is on my phone. I have the screen locked but it trys to open the phone as if i were sliding it to unlock it. You can hear the phone vibrate and see the bar move across the screen. I was reading somewhere else someone having this issue which they thought the issue was a voltage issue.

Just buy those usb extension cables. I use one and it works great, my phone sits right next to me as I sleep and iuse the alarm.

You should probably bring this issue up in your phone's specific area. This is not an Android issue as much as an issue with your specific model/phone.
 
Yeah I prefer mini usb vs micro usb. Just easier to use, easier to plug in without looking, more adapters, more standardized.
 
The mini was probably the easiest to use to for the phone manufacturer to keep the phone slim. My guess is that it was an engineering choice rather than a design choice. 6 of one ... half a dozen of another.
 
The micro-usb is sturdier than the mini. The thinness and design make it more rigid and reliable when inserting and unplugging.

I believe there are a few other minor advantages as well. Though the size is definitely the most important. As devices become really really thin, the size will matter I think.

Yep, I'll take durable over "easier to plug in" any day.

I painted the top of my micro-usb plug with a spot of white paint, so I can instantly see which way is "up".
