I have a Buffalo whr g125 router and i have a 2wire dsl modem i got from netzero. Anyway i need to setup a password for my router because to many neighbors are using my internet. I put the ip address but the buffalo settings is not coming up, the settings for 2wire comes up. And i cant find the buffalo disc anywhere. Can anyone help!

If you type in the IP Address of what you *think* is the router and you are getting your modem settings, then your PC is most likely plugged into your modem, not the router. Otherwise, you should be getting into your router instead. Follow the cable from your PC and see where it goes. The other option is to get a laptop and while it is connected to your wifi, try to access the router because you wont be connected to the modem directly. Just keep in mind that as soon as you set the password to your wifi and save the settings, your laptop will be disconnected from the network so you'll lose the router settings page.

PM me if you need more help.

If your PC is running Windows, go to START>RUN and in the run box type "cmd" (no quotes). at the prompt type:

Code:
route print

Your default gateway is most likely the IP address of the router. Try typing that number into your browser and see if you get the router logon screen.

yeah, my default gateway ip address is the one where the modem settings is coming up. I have know idea what to do, i don't want to get a new router.

Unless you changed the defaults your ip for the router is 192.168.11.1 and the login is 'root' with a blank password.

refer to your manual

BTW, If you haven't changed the defaults, I highly recommend you do.

if that for some reason doesnt work then as a last resort, you can always factory reset your router and disconnect it from the modem so that only your PC is connected to the router and nothing else. Then try connecting to the router's IP. That should not pull up the modem settings since its not connected.

I want to say thank you guys for trying to help me. And my default gateway says http://192.168.1.254 and not http://192.168.11.1 i tried with the laptop and the same thing my 2wire settings popup and when i try the one that is suppose to be my default gateway nothing pops up.

at this point, since you already spent a lot of time on this, just factory reset the router. It'll be faster to setup everything from scratch than to figure out how to get into it as it sits right now.
