Why am I getting slow speeds where I used to get fast speeds?

I have the $70 unlimited data plan. I have done many speed tests in and around my house over the past year and I regularly get speeds of around 20 Mbps. But lately I'm only getting around 3-5 Mbps. Is there any reason for this?

Thanks,
John

I wasn't using more than usual, maybe about 5-6 GB total. And I didn't think T-Mobile did that anyway.

Also, since posting my question, the speeds seem to have gone back up. At one point it was 70 Mbps. And I haven't started a new billing cycle yet.

You shouldnt get prioritized unless you hit 21GB of data in a month

*Unlimited 4G LTE customers who use more than 21 GB of data in a bill cycle will have their data usage de-prioritized compared to other customers for that bill cycle at locations and times when competing network demands occur, resulting in relatively slower speeds. See t-mobile.com/OpenInternet for details.

Since your profile says you are in Houston, you were likely getting slow speeds because of congestion. Houston was only 15x15 and a lot of people here seem to be switching to T-Mobile (with Houston have good T-Mobile coverage). I noticed that my speeds were in the same range a couple of weeks ago (3-5 Mbps). Recently T-Mobile shut down some of the HSPA bandwith to free it up for LTE, which is now 20x20, and has caused speeds to go back up.
