I've seen several tutorials and they do not show step by step on how to root your phone. Seems like the ones in this forum are all missing steps - almost like you have to piecemeal it all together from various threads - the worse possible way. Hows is that a tutorial?? I keep getting a "signature verification failed" message which aborts the new ROM installation..... ugh!

Let's see .... ROM installation is different from just rooting.

Easiest way to root --> Download Matt's DROID RAZR Utility 1.81 (or later, he updates it all the time): Droid Razr Utility 1.81 [Windows] For Verizon Droid Razr/maxx Only! - DroidRzr.com

That piece of fineness will, at your option via a menu, Fastboot your phone to stock ICS 6.16.211 (the Official 4.0.4 ICS OTA), and/or root that same once it's installed, install Voodoo Root Keeper, installed Bootstrap or Safestrap, flash the leaked .214 kernal.

As for installing ROMs, I'll leave that to others. Since ICS, I've not felt the need for a different ROM so have little useful experience with doing the ROM thing on the RAZR.

What I have found is that the ROMs are not really that different from each other and that they look a lot like ICS. Not quite like the Droid Eris fiasco where the ROM in some cases dramatically improved the use of the device. These ICS roms are mediocre so far.

I would like to point out that this will only work if you are already on ICS. You need a different app to get there from Gbread.
