Help why can i not get google voice to work?

It doesnt work every time i try to change the voicemail service it fails to forward my number....so what do i do?
 
are you on a flexpay plan? call forwarding is one of the few limitations you have with a flexpay plan with tmobile. i had the same issue too. i had to change to a non flexpay plan to get google voice to work. no one understands why you cannot get call forwarding with flexpay accounts but it is still a limitation.
 
Idk what flexpay is.... i didnt set up the xontrqct. I bought it unlocked and its on tmobile even more plus...lol im typing on my nexus so sorry
 
to know if you are on flexpay (which i am assuming you are) ask yourself....did i have my credit check done? did i get an approval for my line? do i pay at the begining of the month or the end? did you pay up front for your first month.

with flexpay you do not have to have a credit check.

if you have your credit run you are going to be told if you are approved or not...and if not they will tell you about the flexpay plan.

with flexpay option you would have paid for the first month of service when you signed up. without it they would send you a bill.

i am only assuming you are on flex pay because of the issue you are having. i signed up for flexpay because i thought it was easier to do. i really didn't care when i paid the bill. i was also told that there was no difference. but when i found out there was a difference (call forwarding for google voice) i had my credit check done and went on a post paid account. and abacadabra....google voice!
 
So I'm paying 60 bucks a month, for 500 mins plus unlimited web and text.

If i switch off of flexpay...how will it affect this?

I'm not clear why youre trying to set up a Google Voice-voicemail from your T-Mobile phone.

-If a GV #, there's no voicemail to set up. If someone calls your GV-issued #, and you dont answer from your mobile or other end-phone, your GV voicemail picks up (its a cheesy greeting, actually says "google voice number." Those are transcribed and playable from your GV app on your Nexus.

-If a non-GV #, why are you wanting to route people who call your T-Mobile # to a Google Voice-voicemail? That's why the code and setup are necessary, for if you don't have VM already. Like a landline without an answering machine.

Here is your answer. People have a tmobile phone number and give it to someone. Not many people are going to give out there phone number and/or a Google voice number. If someone calls the phone number it will go to T-Mobiles voicemail not Google's. In order to have you voice mail service send them to Google voice instead you must have call forwarding to allow your phone to do so. With flex pay there is no call forwarding so this can't be done.

Why not just use T-Mobile voicemail ? Because googlevoive is different. It allows users to read a transcript of the voicemail directly on the phone. This works great when making a call is not an option. Also you can check voicemails online and easily store them.

Nope, maybe you missed my question:

You can do/use all aspects of Google Voice (with FlexPay) as I do it everyday. The ONLY thing you can't do, is use your GV voicemail box instead of your TMo voicemail box. If someone calls your TMo #, and you don't answer, they are going to get your TMo VM. What's the big deal?

I asked my question to the OP because the title of his thread read "Why can I not get Google Voice to work?" and then the thread went in the direction of a voicemail feature that he may be misunderstanding and not realizing that's not something he wants anyways. It sounds like he has 500 minutes, and doesn't want to use them so he would rather use GV, which is seamlessly integrated into the Nexus, works awesome, and has nothing to do with your plan.

I don't mean to offend the OP if I am wrong, but he sounds like he's having difficulties setting up GV; maybe he's not super-techy and is misunderstanding the feature and not intending to eliminate his TMo VM and use GV VM in it's place. If I'm correct, it's totally understandable because the verbiage in the "settings" section makes it a little confusing.

Google Voice works with the Nexus, works incredible, and incredibly easy. I use flexpay myself so there's no surprise charges or fees at the end of my month (like the huge bill I would have racked up not knowing we get charged to call a Canadian #. Instead it told me I had to add funds to place the call, so I use GV: free to Canada). My TMo # I ported over, have had it forever, and everyone knows it. I use my GV # for work and advertising, so that I can set it so after-hours calls to go VM instead of waking me, and it I ever needed to change the # I don't have to tell everyone else my new #.

When I dial and hit send, I'm prompted to use my "minutes" or my Google number. If I miss a call to my Tmo #, it goes to my TMo visual voicemail. I miss a call from my Google number, it goes to Google Voicemail and I can play it same as my Visual Voicemail.

OP: Did I understand you correctly? If so, what are you trying to use Google Voice for, and let's help you get it set up correctly.

did you not read my answer. the big deal is this: some of us want to use google voice and not the tmobile voicemail. in my answer i explainded why. you can indeed do/use all aspects of google voice (with flexpay) but how does that help if no phone calls are directed to google voicemail. if they go to tmobs voicemail then i will have to check tmobs. but thats just it...op wants to use googles voicemail...and in order to do that you need call forwarding which is not offered with flexpay. how did you not figure that out?

Are you trying to configure via the Google Voice gui on the N1? For some reason the first time I tried to do this it failed.

I did it manually and it worked fine:

Dial: *004*[YOURGOOGLEVOICENUMBER]# and hit send.
To cancel the forward, dial ##004#

I understood your answer, and agree that is not an option to have tmo calls go to your GV voicemail with flexpay due to no call forwarding. If someone calls your GV# and you don't answer, it does go to GV voicemail.

I also was asking the OP if that's what he was actually trying to do, as his title was "Google Voice doesn't work," or if he was after a different result and could be trying to set something up he didn't need/want. He titled "cant get Google Voice to work" not "can't replace my T-Mobile voicemail with Google voice voicemail" You told him Google Voice won't work with flexpay, I was merely correcting you.

now i understand you. but the op was trying to set up google voice with his nexus. and there are setting in the call settings area to use google voice or tmobile. this option will fail if you select google because of the call forwarding issue. this is what the op tried to do. i also had this issue. although i had google voice properly set up i was getting no voicemails from google. i could not understand why untill i checked the settings. i tried to set it up as i already described and it would not work. i too thought that i could not get google voice to work. so i found out it was the flexpay issue, fixed that, and i am now using google voice for my voice mail.

and most importantly the op specifically said "every time i try to change the voicemail service it fails to forward my number". this is the issue i was trying to address. the forwarding and the flex pay issue.

and even though he did not title his post "can't replace my T-Mobile voicemail with Google voice voicemail", this is what he was trying to do.
