why can't phone recognize microSD card?

Recently upgraded from LG Volt 2 to a Galaxy J7 perx (and what does that perx stand for anyway?).

So today I removed the 4GB Sandisk microSD card from the LG phone and put it into the Samsung one. I am almost certain that I followed directions properly and put it in the right place, snapped it in.

But then turning the J7 on it doesn't acknowledge the presence of this card.

Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

Nothing in the notification shade.
I find it hard to believe that it needs reformatting only because last week I was listening to some songs on the card when it was in the LG Volt 2.

What version of Android was the Volt running? It could be the card was encrypted and therefor wouldn't be readable by the new phone without formatting.

It's either format the card or a bad slot..try putting in a different sd card to see what happens..

Or maybe is even some how rusty..you can try to cleaning it up with a little brush..

As you were using that microSD card just last week you shouldn't need to re-format it but do double-check you're inserting into the card slot in the correct orientation (those metal contacts need to match up with the metal contacts inside the slot). Also, being a 4GB card, that must be pretty dated at this point, isn't it? What speed class is it?
