Why do music players play random track after your selection?

As in the title, why do music players insist on playing a random track after playing the tracks you have selected to listen to?

I find it infuriating to have listened to something subdued, only to have the peace destroyed by some up-beat track you have, totally unrelated to the music you were just listening to. Does anyone else find this an issue?

This does not seem to be restricted to Android players, I am sure Ipods and Walkmans do this too.

Does anyone know of an Android music player that does not do this?

Because shuffle has been selected?

Options would be:
deselecting shuffle
making playlists
using the built-in artists/albums databases

Shuffle not selected.

I find the players still do this, even if a playlist has been selected. Once it has reached the end of the playlist, a random track is played.

Use the repeat option. Keep selecting the repeat button in the default music player and pay attention to what the toast says.

-No repeat
-Repeat all tracks
-Repeat this song

are the three that it cycles through.

You might want to try jukefox, which offers two playmodes that try to select the next track in a smart way:

- Similar songs: Choose songs similar to what you have just been listening
- Smart shuffle: Select the next song based on your skipping behavior, i.e. songs that are similar to others you've recently skipped are avoided.

Hope this helps!
