Why do people go insane for new technology, especially apple fans?

If the mods need to close this thread please do so. I don't want to be flamed but I am well aware this might happen...

Anyway why on earth do Apple fans queue up for sooo long just to get the iphone and then feel upset because they weren't the first one to get it.

I buy technology based on its function and use, and last and mostly least, style. I wouldn't queue for hours to get a new piece of technology. I wouldn't feel upset if somebody got it two minutes before me.

The most I would ever do is for example with a new games console, I possibly would pre order and collect at midnight. But I wouldn't queue up for ages waiting, I have better things to do.

I certainly don't remember people acting this way for the HTC Desire.

Trust me apple fans are disillusioned, they would buy crap if they sold it and people would still line up to be the 1st :)

Apple fans get caught in the euphoria of the moment and it's exciting to know that you are one of the first to get something that the media is announcing. There's nothing wrong with this euphoria, it adds a little excitement to society. You can simply choose to be part of it. I bought an Alienware computer many years ago because of the blue, glowing alien head on the lid but the computer itself was a piece of crap (I found out gradually). Still, that didn't stop me from showing it off at coffee shops. These are the little things that make us unique and that sells, but you don't have to participate.

Apple knows how to advertise and make a market, that's why. Nobody cared about tablets until the ipad came along. I like new technology, but I never buy anything that's first generation. Since there will be something to replace it shortly after. Kind of why I held off on the Evo.

my $0.02 cents, (Canadian)

everyone likes to be the cool person one time or another, true mac heads are fanatics, apples is good at advertising their products, they know they are not the best but advertising it makes it look like it is, most people just want a cool device they want to be the cool one, most people who own an iphoone have no idea what it can do, but hey they have a cool now toy, me yes i also like to have new cool gadgets but I think i like to have ones that are cool and better hence Android, I was and still am a big Nokia fan but lately their software is falling behind, I could of moved to the iphone but having an ipod touch knew the iphone was not much different in the OS or design so I opted for android, and thank god i did, I hate to be a sheep a follower,

Agreed. When I bought my 1st Android/Smartphone, I chose Android for the exact reason above. I already had a 3rd generation iTouch and knew what it was like, became an easy decision for me from there.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this.

The reason is because Apple products are MAGICAL and REVOLUTIONARY. Every single one of them.:D

Steve Jobs is great at getting people to talk about and anticipate the latest, greatest iThingy. Apple fans get a euphoric self esteem boost from having the iThingy that everyone is talking about. Besides that, they know it's the greatest thing since the last greatest thing - Steve said so himself.

Apple is like a Movado watch.

OK pretty but I'd rather have a water/shock resistant digital sports watch with all kinds of timers, alarms, etc...and actually tells you what time it is!

That is funny, I have a nice watch that does do all those things. I got a brilliant deal on it as well, 1/5 price because Citizen were launching new models :P

I have no problem telling what time it is on my Movado.

ha, i work at radioshack , and people just call and call and never stop calling about the damn iphone 4. its not even good or that much different from 3GS. they are crazy ass people, really.
people are barely excited about the EVO at my store where i live, im like telling them to get the evo when they ask for the iphone

Although I'd never have a watch like that or own an Armani anything, style has its place in our culture. I don't participate in it but I'm glad others do. The world would be really boring without it. But think about this? You don't think Apple products are still the leader? Think again... Every iOS4 rant on this ng (for Android) has been comparing Android to **the best** Why is that? I'm not an Apple fan but you have to give credit where credit is due. Apple has consistently set the standard and everyone else followed. I hate to say but sexy sells and always will, that's just basic marketing. My kids all have PCs (that I chose) but I know they'd rather have an Apple product.

It's not just tech. It's a larger problem, IMO, of rampant consumerism in general. People think that buying products improves their lives and makes them happy. Of course, with tech, the issue is made a bit worse because of the relatively short product lifecycles.

I certainly don't remember people acting this way for the HTC Desire.
Certain brands generate more hype than others. I mean, for example, not every movie has people lining up for the midnight screenings, right?

Apple is certainly one of those brands. I don't see why HTC would be brought into the discussion unless you've been living in a cave. :p

Great. You're not representative of the people that you're talking about though. I wouldn't either but that's neither here nor there. We're not discussing our preferences.

Hmm, yes I can see it's exciting to get a new piece of tech. I often keep my feet in the world of the up and coming. However it is sad to know some people have nothing better to do.
