Help Why does my storage keep shrinking? What are all these hidden photos/videos?

Hi all, I joined this forum because my phone has been giving me a huge headache recently and was hoping to find some answers!

I own a Virgin Mobile Samsung... Galaxy Victory or something like that.
Model number: SPH-L300
Android version: 4.1.2

I've owned my phone for about 1.5 years now, and in the past several months have had to reset it a couple times because it keeps running out of storage and I have no idea how. I use an app cache cleaner, and I delete almost all the photos that I take. It'll go from like 500MB of storage after I reset, reinstall all my apps, etc... to under 100 in a couple months and then I have to start all over again.

For me, the most puzzling thing right now is that apparently I have 300MB of "photos and videos," so I deleted the few photos currently on my phone, but not even a blip, it still says 300MB. When I open up gallery I only have 2 albums, and they're linked to my google account so I can't delete them! One is my google+ profile pictures (2 photos), and one is my google+ autobackup album (100 photos)... I had accidentally turned on autobackup at one point, possibly on a previous android but possibly on this phone, but it's currently turned off. Are those 2 albums responsible for the 300MB (I used to assume the autobackup backed up to google servers or something, not your phone?), if so how do I delete them?

Any advice?? I'll need to reset my phone again soon cus I'm constantly getting low memory warnings. blargh it's such a PITA

Thank you!!

Can you go into your settings for your gallery and choose the option to "show hidden" folders?
If not, the app QuickPic has the option to "show hidden" folders.
Sometimes some apps will download, or save photos or videos. I had that issue with whatsapp--any time someone would send me a pic or video, it would auto download it. What a pita that was :(

thank you! I don't have that option, unfortunately :(

additionally, I just restarted my phone and the 300MB are gone - it now doesn't have an option for Photos & Videos (which makes sense, as I have none atm), but the free space is still only 140MB, not reflecting the difference. so confused...
