Why does my storage space not add up?

I take a lot of photos and videos on my phone, so I upload it to my computer all the time. I say that, because my storage is always pretty low from me uploading a lot, but now my phone is saying I have like no space left, but I can't find what's taking up so much space on my phone. I just did a drop of photos and videos about a month ago and it already says its full. I'm about to put a sd card for my photos and videos, but I dont want to ignore my storage when it would be a good back up for putting my photos and videos on. Please help! Thank you.

looks about right. Android OS in itself usually takes about 5 gigs to half your storage for jtself. So if you include that what's left sound right.

But that still doesn't make much sense because I had so many more photos and videos on here before. And now I have a fraction of the photos and videos and its telling me the storage is full. I think that's what was confusing me more

was there an update for your phone recently? could be that. I use Sd Maid once a week just to clean up space. Usually frees up 3 gigs.

Well your storage adds up correctly it's just that you don't know where everything is. You have to keep in mind about files called 'Others' and Hidden files on your device that may not show it's consumption viewed from your file manager.
