Why does the headset button not work on Android?

I've used these headphones on an iPhone and Windows phone, when you get a call you hit the button on the headset it answers the phone and hangs up, when playing music 1 push pauses the button, 2 quick pushes skips to next track, 3 quick pushes plays the previous track. The button just doesn't work or my Moto G 4G, I came across an app called Degauss to configure the button, still doesn't work.

Anyone any ideas?

It's the phone itself, not supporting the headset. I had a Philips headset that was compatible with an iPhone, a Nokia, and my Samsung Galaxy. This is a hardware issue.

The controls on headsets can be implemented in different ways, there's no set standard, e.g what works with an iPhone might not work with a Motorola, and vice-versa. Does the headphones have "Designed for iPhone" on the packaging or instructions?

No they actually came from an old Galaxy S2, I have a pair of Nokia headphones and tried them, same thing.

It seems that it's Motorola is the one who used a different implementation in this case, as the Philips headser I mentioned works on a Nokia, a Samsung Galaxy S, S3 mini, Note 2, and has 'designed for iPhone' on the box.

Presumably it's because the iPhone is the most popular, and so others have designed there headsets and phones to be compatible with it. And whatever Motorola have done is different.

The first iPhone wasn't compatible with any third-party headphones and headsets, the socket was recessed and would only fit Apple headsets. You needed an adapter to use others or you carved chunks out the top of your iPhone, I've seen people doing it.
