Why Doesn't iphone Keyboard Have Numbers

on the top the qwerty keyboard like my Android has? Is seems such a commom sense and easy solution rather than having to change keyboards just to get to get access to the numbers. It's one of the many little edges the android has over the iphone. I understand some of them, but that one seems so simple.

Who needs numbers? iPhone has siri... ;)

Ehh.. I have to hit an alt button or long press to get numbers, no surprise that iphones need alt buttons too. Probably has to do with limited screen real estate... Or fat fingers. Maybe a combination of the two... but at least iphones can install other... keyboards.... ooops. ;) :D

I merely speak in jest iphone people.

Me thinks that this was not on the first iPhone.. So why create some new magical experience for their users that are used to the same old bland keyboard that they are used to. Might cause seizures or something

Excuse me, but my Android phone requires that you hit the "?123" button to get to the numbers. I use an iPad, not an iPhone, and the keyboard works about the same way on my iDevice: you press the number key to get to the numbers.

I cannot see your issue and it is not an "edge" over the iPad/iPhone/iPod. Apparently, your phone manufacturer decided to provide a different keyboard layout. So perhaps it is not an Android plus, just a plus as far as you are concerned and one that applies to a few phones, not every Android device.

I can't stand when I use my mom's iPad and have to switch between alpha and numeric keyboards. Of course I do this on my DX when I want to enter a full address in Google Maps quickly. But that's different cause I have to option to longpress if I choose.

Can you change keyboards on iStuff?

Swype
Ai type
SwiftKey
GB keyboard
ICS keyboard
Go keyboards

You have a fun filled CHOICE.

That is surely a plus over iDevices

Why is it a plus? As it is, my iPad has a great keyboard. The keyboards you mentioned are only worth a tinker's darn if they be more convenient for the user. It does not necessarily mean Android is better any more than it means the iPad is better. I am happy, so there!. Smiley!

And I do have access to other than stock keyboards from Cydia.

I'm not disagreeing with you on that one, and I find typing on my ipod easy and comfortable. But to get access to cydia you need to go through jailbreaking... while a root method isn't required on android devices to install keyboards.

Why is it a plus? Serious?

Having a choice is usually always a plus.

All the common users know youre an apple slappy, and thats a-ok, but questioning why having a choice over a standard keyboard is kinda
silly.

I use a different keyboard because im 99% one handed. Bigger keys help me out a ton. There are keyboards that let someone change the width and/or height. Im not sure if apple has that feature, but it sure is nice knowing that i have that feature!

Therefore it is a plus!

I didn't explain the keyboard issue properly. I wasn't writing about a whole new line of numbers on the keypad. On my current android, and my 2 previous ones, there is a small "1" above the "Q", and a small "2" above the "W" etc. One simply holds they key for a long press to input the number instead of the letter.

And I'm not really trying to diss the iphone; i've had one since the dayit came out. It just seems like such an elegant solution rather than having to hit the "123" key, I wondered why Apple decided against it.

I know... I get what you're saying and everything. Apple is slow to stray from the beaten path. Look at the body of their phone... Look at theire interface...

If it's not broke, why fix... They have had a wee bit of success with what they have, why throw a wrench in it.

If it was a big enough issue it would either be addressed, or have the multitasking Kool Aid effect

Just to play devils advocate, say you are typing two numbers interlaced with alpha characters (21ABC, for example).

That 21 would take much longer for me to type on a "hold down for secondary" keyboard (such as the sense keyboard I am using) than it would to type the '123' button then press those buttons...

That being said, I almost never use the '123' mode and just do long presses (not in a hurry). ;)

I have my keys with extra options timed very shortly for a "hold" sequence.

So so so easy and useful!

And the extra stuff doesn't take up too much space.. To me at least
