Why doesn't Latitude work right?

My girlfriend and I would really like to utilize Latitude. But it's always off, behind, or wrong. We can be sitting next to each other in the same car and it will tell me where she was 12 hours ago, and on mine is has me where I currently am, but on her it has me 4 hours ago. Refreshing does nothing. I don't understand why it is not working.

Also, when I am at work, which is in Indianapolis, it says I am at Center, IN. When she is a work, again in Indianapolis, it says Washington, IN. When I am at home in Greenwood, it says all kinds of stuff that's not correct.

Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: Also, I meant to ask, is there another app that we could use for this? This tool is handy for us because we carpool and I would like to be able to know where she is so I know when to go out to meet her.

Under Settings>Location and Security Settings we have Use GPS Satellites checked. I've never seen anything about triangulation. I'm not saying it doesn't work at all, it's just worthless as far as the Latitude aspect goes. Like I said, we can both be in the same car, hit maps, look at ourselves, and it shows each of us, on our own Droid, as an arrow movign along the correct path (even thought it's name for where we are might be wrong). But, if we check each other using latitude, it will tell us something like the other's location 12 hours ago. It is strange because I know the unit is using GPS and has us in the correct location on the map, but as far as latitude goes, it's like it needs to refresh but it is not.

I experience this problem too on my nexus one and I had the same thing happen on my mytouch3G before! I don't know how it determines when to update. Even if I hit refresh it will show one friend's location from 2 minutes ago, another 1 hour ago, and another like 2 DAYS ago. It's odd... :\

Yep. I got frustrated with Latitude, and switched to InstaMapper. Works great. Latitude wouldn't run in the background. InstaMapper does.

Also, anyone can see your position on InstaMapper. For Latitude they have to be Latitude users. And finally, InstaMapper shows a breadcrumb track of your movements, Latitude only shows your current position.

Recommended!

Also check out Glympse. Instamapper seems to require that you embed a map on a site/facebook to be used for sharing. Glympse hosts it for you. Definitely my favorite tracking app.

Latitude is just plain broken. Others see me as disconnected for days now, but I just used latitude on my phone yesterday.

DroidTracker is nice. You send SMS to another phone with DroidTracker and it sends back its location. Not as graphical but low overhead and you don't need to sign up for anything.
