Why don't topics i start or post in subscribe?

Other forums I've noticed ( and liked) that they auto subscribe me to topics I've participated in. Is there a setting Im missing or do we have to manually subscribe to each topic?

Click on 'UserCP' on the top left of the heading banner. There's a table on the left of the screen, go to 'Settings & Options' and select 'edit option'. Second Row, 'Messaging and Notification', under 'Default thread subscription mode' select what mode you want.

I currently have mine as 'no email notification', this way, when I post in a thread, it will subscripe to the thread but I won't get an email notificaiton.
