Why I'm Loving the G1 Right Now

One thing I was missing from my Windows Mobile experience was the ability to see upcoming appointments and weather on my home screen. Came in really handy. Well thanks to two apps, I've got that part of the experience back---but better!

WeatherBug
I've loved this app since I first got it. The other Weather Apps are okay, but Weatherbug had a couple legs up, First you can get as much detail or as little on the forecast for the next few days. The second tab gives you detail, but if you slide your finger to the left on a day, it gives you more detail. Still not enough? Slide again and it gives you an hour by hour breakdown of the forecast for that day. You can slide it all back, and always can scroll further down into other days.
One of the best features, I've found, is the local weathercam. If there's a weather webcam nearby, you can see a recent, short video of what the weather looks like right now (Handy in snowy Chicago today). You can move forward or backward in the video and even save a frame as a picture -- I used that for a really sweet sunset.
Well now Weatherbug has outdone itself with status in the notification bar! Up on the left hand corner at any time, I can now see the most recent temperature update. If pull down the notification shade I get a simple description of current weather, right now it says:

32

yep, these are good apps but what I'm really looking forward to is when they can be widgets.
Yes, I'm sure I'll get tired of everything that should be some sort of widget ending up in the notification bar/shade. Luckily I'm not that popular, so I'm not overrun with texts/emails/and IMs on top of my calendar, weather, and other notifications.
