I purchased an AT&T Thrive about 2 weeks ago because it was a goPhone and I could pay for just the data I was using. Because of this, I've been trying to monitor my data usage. I don't mind using data, but I noticed that I was using data even when the phone was idle and the screen was locked.
After spending a couple of weeks trying to figure out what the data hog was I discovered it was "Network Location" according to 3g Watchdog. Some days "Network Location" was 80% (or so) of my data usage.
Right now I think I found that it is Location Services and it is a service started by Google Maps. I'm still not positive about this though. I thought that someone on this forum might know.
If it is, my question is, why is it using so much of my 3g data? Also, how do I get it to stop? If this is information that Google wants (for whatever reason), why should I be paying to get it to them?
If anyone has suggestions on pinpointing the issue let me know. If I can find what service (or program) is using up my data, I would like to block it while I'm not using the service, but enable it when needed.
Thanks for any insight!:
