Help Why is my S6 so much slower than my laptop on WiFi?

Was the Mac actually on WiFi or plugged-in Ethernet? I've never seen WiFi doing 55Mbps before, What I've seen WiFi maxes out at about 30Mbps, usually somewhat less.

Same WiFi network, AP is in same room, Speedtest nearly always maxes out at around 12-13Mbps for both devices. However the phone is using LTE, it's right up to 30-40Mbps with Speedtest. :thumbsupdroid:

My MacBook, router, and S6 are all 802.11ac which are capable of well over 55Mbps.

802.11ac is a relatively new spec, finally approved last year, operates on 5GHz. Most routers I've seen so far are still 802.11n at the latest, including one we bought a few months ago.

So your Mac seems to be OK if it is using 802.11ac. Is your S6 actually using WiFi on 5GHz, because if it isn't, it will drop back to 802.11n, or even 802.11b/g, on 2.4GHz. One thing about the much higher frequency, 5GHz, it will be much harder for it to go through obstructions, walls, furniture, floors, etc. even people.

BTW I've read about a next generation of wireless technologies running at 28GHz, capable of givign some stupendously high speeds. But it will be very line-of-sight, 28GHz won't go through anything. Probably intended really for something like 4K HDMI video over WiFi, something requiring a very wide bandwidths.

Actually I found out that the issue appears to be that the S6 antenna is just much more weak that my other devices. If I remove the case and move next to the router, the speed is around 50Mbps. The speed quickly drops if I put the case on and/or move a few feet from the router.

A few feet?!

That's a defective phone - get it replaced or repaired.

I can connect to my home WiFi's 2.4GHz signal from twenty metres away with good speed and my 5GHz signal from about 15metres away, with speed equal to those shown in screen shots above with my S6. I too think you have a faulty S6 get it replaced, if you can or at very least repaired under warranty.
