Why the new iphone isn't going to be a success

Crude

Android Expert
So I recently visited a apple forum of some sort and the arrogance was numbing. I decided to pick apart the hopes and dreams of the iphonies.

First of all it won't be on verizons network. Verizon is too close to LTE to make the retooling to add cdma support worth while. Cdma's greatest market is the US. Pretty much the rest of the world uses GSM.

Secondly, the first iphone was had all sorts of new stuff on it. The second was the same as the first with 3g and the last was the same as the first two with a faster processor a magnetometer and a software upgrade. Going by apples history of innovation the next one isn't going to be mind blowing. It MAY have more storage space and should at least get a better camera but those are only going to happen is apple can find a way to do it cheaply. I highly doubt 4g is going to happen as 2010 only sprint will have remotely wide spread support and it probably won't have a different screen. Why? Well because apple would be facing the issues that Android has: different devices with different screens/resolution. Almost every ihpone app would have to be rewritten to accommodate a change in the current screen. Sure it's behind the droids screen but the effort to compete might actually be a step back for apple. And while we're on it. The screen size on handheld devices is reaching is pinnacle. I don't think anyone will disagree with me that wvga is the way to go? And that 4" is pretty much the limit.

Either way, the claims by fan boys of a laptop in handheld form is just ludicrous. And I'm sick of gadget snobbery.

I expect the next iPhone to have an OLED display, 5MP camera, 64GB memory, faster CPU, and a slightly updated UI. I hope it can compete with the Nexus One as that would mean the Nexus Two will be even better :)

This is so funny. As if the same thing isn't occuring with the Droid. (And the Storm 2 FWIW.) According the the loyalists, each of them is the best thing since sliced bread. Just depends on which one you have.

Your probably right, but apple fan boys aren't limited to cellphones, if it doesn't have a apple logo it's inferior. Apple logos on tech is like stickers in racing they add at least 5 hp!!!!!

See that's realistic. Do a search for iphone 4g and you find claims of 128gb memory, 10 mp camera, duocore proccessors, 1/8 inch think iphones with 2 day battery life..... and coffee makers.

Really? I would only switch if it was an espresso maker with a little pull out steam wand.

I heard the steam wand version wont be released until 4thQ 2010 code named the iPhone 3gs-markII+froth. Not sure I can wait that long...

The first, second, and third iPhones Didn't bring anything new to the market... WinMo phones still lead the way in functionality, back then, and now. The only thing that kept winmo back was lack of user friendliness. But all that is going to change with WinMo 7. ( I hope ) The only thing that made the iPhone a success is good marketing, and what i call the iPhase. Stick
"i" in front of anything and it seems to be a success! lol.

Oh, it's the "i"? I thought it was apples ability to make things so easy a caveman could do it....? I suppose that slogan was already taken though?

For the record, I have until the droid been using winmo. Both winmo and android seem on the surface a more capable OS then the iphone OS....both lack the support that the itunes store has given the iphone. Either way, MS it the last contender for a market place and it seems to be growing the slowest....I switched cause MS failed to listen to it's customer base for 3 years and is now tten to the point of blaming it's customers for it's shotty OS...remember "windows 7 is my idea....";)

don't forget the apple logo spoiler, add another 5 horses!!lol':D

they did evolved with the "S"= SUCKERS!!!! and they still don't get it. Btw, it is not good marketing,it is called "CONTROL"
I bet if apple put a 4 in front of the G and add 2 SS at the end (call it a next gen 4G iphone),these double suckers will not hesitate to upgrade to get 1 extra S and not EVEN knowing it is the same iphone.
They be on their iphone forums bragging that they've 1 extra S !!

Personally, i've never needed a "marketplace" to find apps. There are millions of WinMo programs available for free, or paid. I was always perfectly capable of finding exactly what I needed or wanted, and even stumbled upon neat stuff as well. But I suppose the "average" person is lazy/stupid or both and cant find what they need unless it is shoved in their face. Oh well.

I've always like WinMo myself but there just isn't enough of a selection out there. I really thought about the Touch Pro 2 but at $535 (full price), I just couldn't pull the trigger - which is saying something for me. I just wish they'd get a little more competitive. For now, I'm loving Android and especially love that lots of Android devices are coming out for all the carriers so that Android Nation can grow. ;)

I've run into a lot of fanboys in my day for lots of different things. I may even be guilty of being one myself to a degree. There's just something about rabid Apple fanboism that's so much worse than anything else I've experienced though. I just want to kick them in the teeth whenever they open their smug mouths.

Harsh? Perhaps. Deserved? Likely.

Playing devil's advocate, I have to say I would be absolutely shocked if the new iPhone isn't a runaway success. Three iterations of it have all sold phenomenally well. It serves the needs of most folks who want a smartphone that's relatively easy to use right out of the box.

Yeah I was in the same exact spot u were! I instantly fell in love with the tp2 but couldn't justify 500+ out of pocket PLUS contract. Additionally, manufacturers are skimping on hardware. For that price, the tp2 should have a 1ghz proc with 512 ram and 8 or 16 gigs onboard storage and a 8mp camera to boot. When I compared specs with the moment I had to opt for the moment.

it is true that it is much harder for apple to come out with a larger screen with higher resolution because that would affect all the apps and accessories for the old iPhone. Many of those apps are fine tuned to the pixel and hard to adapt.

Agreed CDMA2000 systems as far as the US and most likely the rest of the world can't really be milked for anymore years. They need to retire already. If they wanted to add CDMA2000 support think of the battery drainage; Tri band UMTS, quad band GSM, dual band CDMA2000, dual LTE. Not gonna happen it would be a hardware nitemare, hell quad band GSM with triband UMTS is already a bitch to implement, look how thick these 3G phones are compared to regular phones.

Yeah you can make a bigger screen but its eventually going to make the device more large than it needs to be/consumers want.

I am too. All these gadget snobs don't even know what the hell 3G even really means let alone how the devices compare so they can all shut up. I even see it on here like "droid pwns iphone" like are they trying to start a shit storm?!!! Unless you have some type of even limited knownleadge around the technology surrounding these "god like" devices that are glued to our hands don't try and start a shit storm, Though I do like fighting off fanboys on both sides because I can counter it pretty well.

My comments are in the bold.
