Wazzup? Currently using a rooted ZTE Score x500 (the one with the backdoor recently posted on pastebin) over WiFi. Shoulda bought 5 when they were $30! Use with the Verizon $20/GB/mo MiFi 2200 portable hotspot.
Tips/Works For Me:
I make a lot of calls from my MacBook Pro using Google Voice in gMail, a USB adapter that was under $5 on eBay, and an old but good Andrea headset.
Receive a lot of calls on my iPad using Groundwire and sipgate. Use a y-cable to connect the output from the USB adapter to the headset and to my stereo.
Google Voice in Google Mail doesn't ring reliably, and doesn't sound good if one has too many tabs/windows open - irrespective of CPU usage - good to know to manage that!
I've been through over a dozen phones. This is my second Android; first was a Sony X10a (pickpocketed). (Before that, iPhone 1, Samsung SGHa707, Sony/Ericsson ??, Ericsson 788, ... car phones, Radio Shack bricks..)
Goals here:
Looking for a solid, cheap, but non-free App/VoIP provider/combo to use on the Score over MiFi. Google Voice is great for texting, but neither Talkatone nor GrooVe IP work decently on this admittedly underpowered device, and weren't good on the X10a either. I usually end up texting or listening to vMail until i can use my Mac or iPad.
More generally, I'm looking for the best scheme for having a "phone" that works wherever I am. The iPhone was pretty good for that with Groundwire, but I prefer Android.
Looking to make better use of my Score now that I've rooted it.
Looking to share what I know (e.g. Tips, above!)
I'm pretty passionate about getting a good deal, and more passionate about getting a fair deal. Also about security, quad skates and dancing, among other things.
"Don't Be Shy", you say? Me, shy? Ha, not these days. It's too rewarding not to be!
Well, shit, I have work to do!
HI!
