Help Why won't my phone and PC talk to each other?

I have plugged my Samsung J5 into my PC using a USB connector. The good news is my phone is charging.

The thing is there is no data connection at all. Windows Explorer shows nothing and ES file explorer on the phone shows nothing.

I get a ping sound from the PC and did at one time get a brief message on the PC saying the USB device is not recognised. Apart from that nothing. If I go into the PC device manager there is nothing connected to any USB port.

Are there different types of USB cable where some are only for charging?

Can anyone suggest anything?

If you hear a ping from your PC, it means that you are using a data cable.

You need to update your PC's USB drivers so that it can recognize your J5. There must be specific drivers for your phone.

If your computer and your phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, you can use Wi-Fi to transfer files between devices too.
