Why won't night mode turn off with my custom time?

I'd rather just turn it off, but there's no option to do it. So I thought the next best thing would be to set a custom time late at night when I'm sleeping. But as you can see in the screenshot, night mode is still active.

What gives!?

Because night mode is forced on by system settings. For what it's worth I have no idea why your phone has system night mode. Mine doesn't because Google scrapped that. Did you root and turn it on?

No, it's whatever came on the phone, plus an update. Still Marshmallow though. I can't find any kind of settings for it.

Uh, okay. I went back to my settings just now and noticed that Nova no longer said "Night mode is enabled by system settings," as it does in the above screenshot.

So I changed the setting from Auto back to Follow System and night mode turned off! As far as I can tell, nothing has changed with my system, but now it's suddenly working as expected.

If I'm reading your last post correctly, night mode switched on at 12 midnight GMT and your 'Day' schedule is set to 6.00am to 12.00am ie. 12 midnight so do your schedule times default to GMT?. In which case 12 midnight with you is actually 6.00am GMT and 6.00am with you is 12 noon GMT (midday or 12.00pm).

This would make your 'Day' settings :-

12.00 pm (midday) - 6.00 am GMT
which is :-
6.00 am - 12.00 am (midnight) Houston.

I'm not sure what the system settings are (since there don't actually seem to BE any), but Auto was set to 6:30am-6:30pm for day time, and after daylight savings it changed to 5:30-5:30. All local.

Aaaaaaand it's back to doing night mode again.

::sigh::

It was 11.58pm (GMT) according to the post time-stamp when you made this post (6.00pm Local time according to Google), and the point I'm making is that if you still have your Custom 'Day' settings as 6.00am - 12.00am (midnight) and your night mode switched on at 12.00am (midnight) GMT, which it appears to have done, then your Custom time settings are GMT, not Local time.

Ah, I see what you mean. At the time of that post I didn't have it set to Custom, I had it on Auto and it WAS in night mode. Then switching it to Follow System turned it back to day mode, but I suppose that was only because it hadn't become "night" yet according to the system.

But there is no way for me to check the system settings for this, because they are nowhere to be found. I don't understand what Nova Launcher is using to determine this.

When you had Night Mode controlled by your Custom schedule, what times did it switch on and off or did it not switch at all?.

I didn't leave it on custom. I tried it just to see if there was an option to turn it off, but there wasn't. I think the times were the same as auto by default.
