Help Wi-Fi Calling Notification won't go away

Brhino

Lurker
I tried out wi-fi calling when I first got my phone and didn't care for it, so I turned it off. Last night my phone updated, and now I have a notification that says

"Wi-Fi Calling
Turn it on now."

When I clear all notifications this one promptly comes back. I cannot seem to turn it off. If I turn Wi-Fi calling on and back off, the notification comes back. Long pressing on the notification brings me to the App Settings for "Phone", which does not have an option to disable notifications as most other apps do.

How do I get rid of this notification?

Same here. I don't want to give my address. I understand the "risk." If I don't turn on wifi calling, then it's a moot issue so my safety is clearly not the actual goal of this. Trying to make me give you yet another piece of data about myself is. I don't want to do this. Stop harassing me with notifications.

Really annoying. Hopefully somebody has an answer. This only started the other day when there was a software update from AT&T.

I'm not calling Victory yet because it's only been about 5 minutes, but I have turned wifi calling on and off again after disabling AT&T smart WiFi notifications. I have not received the annoying notification as of yet. Hope this helps others. I will report back if this does not resolve the situation, but if you don't hear back from me this was the solution for me.

That is strange. Maybe you're on a different version of Android? I'm not sure if this app existed before the recent update, but I seem to recall it previously.

By the way, still no notification, so I think this solved it for me. Check through your apps to see if there's some other WiFi notifications.

I think I see what's going on, and what the second poster was referring to. I turned wifi calling back on, and when I went to the settings I had new options. It seems that AT&T wants me to give it an address to use for emergencies - because if I am using wifi and make a 911 call, there will be no cellular signal for emergency responders to trace.

The software doesn't seem to be happy that I have no interest in doing this. I imagine if I go through will all the setup, I can probably then turn wi-fi calling back off and not have to deal with notifications.

I've got the app (G6, Android 7.0) but i ignore it. Never accepted the TOS.

This kicks in if an AT&T hotspot is in range and it will turn on WiFi if it's off and use that instead of 4G/LTE

I can now confirm that after giving AT&T an address to be used for emergency purposes, I was able to complete the Wi-Fi Calling setup and then disable Wi-Fi Calling without additional notification.

This is not the first service the phone refuses to remove notifications about unless I complete setup. The others so far have been Samsung Pay and Samsung Rewards. Have to say I am not a fan.

Same boat here. I have NEVER enabled wifi calling. Got a forced update this morning. Now I have this stupid effing notification that won't go away and I can't disable it. The notification seems directly linked to the phone app, so presumably if I disable the phone app notifications then I won't get notifications for real things like actual phone calls etc... while the phone is locked.

"wi-fi calling" "turn it on now" shows up in the notification bar grayed out.
