Help Wi-Fi Only Device

Hi,
If you are using an S3 as a WiFi only device, how can you add Android 5.0 without rooting? Thanks in advance!

S3 is very old... i would guess that the carrier that sold you that phone did not make the update to android 5.0 for it.
so without root.. you can not upgrade it.

all phones are customized to the network the carrier uses.
even the global certified ones.. they also get different customizations.
so each carrier must take the newest Android version and make ready for each phone.
Carriers normally stop all major updates about 2 yrs after release of device.

what carrier did you get it from? someone here can confirm if they did or not.

Hi, it is from Sprint.

then, Sprint is one of the worst on updates. my guess...
only way is to Root it.
Deep down inside I kind of knew that already, ha ha. Thanks, Looks like I am going to have to root then. When rooting what do I need to make sure that is compatible with my S3. I know you have to find a compatible Kernel, Custom ROM, but is there anything else?

go over to XDA.com

as you know there are S3 for a lot of carriers. make sure the ROOTING process you use is approved and tested on your Sprint version!!! and the current android version you are running can be rooted.

only use ROMs .. designed for your SPRINT S3.
you can break / brick your phone .. if you use the wrong ROM!!!!

Thanks ;), so those are the only 2 things I need to find for my phone, kernel and ROM, that´s it?

I have not been rooting in a long time...
and I have not see my S3 in 2 yrs.

1st you need to find the CORRECT rooting procedure for your device/carrier/android version

then find a custom ROM you want to use... a custom ROM should have every thing you need.

Kernels can be swapped out.. this you can do too.. if you don't like the one that came with the ROM.

always READ.. research.. and READ some more.. before you try it.
Good luck.. I am NOT responsible for any bad advice I might have given. :P
