Help Wi Fi Strength

nshaw75

Newbie
I have a HTC One X rooted running ViperX3.4. My problem is that the WiFi signal strength I can get from my phone is shockingly bad in different parts of my house. Right next to my router I can get 20mbps as this is the broadband I am currently on. If I go upstairs and sit on my bed, or am in the kitchen the speed drops to around 2mbps if I am lucky. I thought about it being a faulty wireless router but my laptop consistently gets 20mbps all through the house.

Any help would be appreciated.

That's pretty common, my friend. ;)

Barriers will "filter" or even block wifi signals between the source and the receiving device. The more metal involved the more "filtering." Pipes, conduit, appliances, tv sets and other computers etc.

There are some measures a user can take to try to maximize signal (repeaters are the most obvious, some which plug into outlets in different rooms and some which are attached to walls outside, etc. But that's $$$$). ;)

Free remedies include experimenting with channels on the router (1-11), router height (mine sprays about 87% now that I've got it off the floor next to the living room tv stand and up on a keepsake bureau, about 36" high (had to bribe the wife with chocolate to get the "ugly" router up there next to the German beer steins and other memorabilia), making sure the power supply is nowhere near the router, etc.

Have fun with it; I have a friend who keeps hers in a high cabinet in the middle of the house for a great signal everywhere. :)

Thanks for the reply. I have improved my signal by turning off the power saver option. I managed to stream some music earlier without interruptions.

I have though done a test side by side with my wifes One SV and her is considerably better. I don't know if this is a software issue as I have only really noticed it since I routed my phone
